Ricky Dobbs Delivers Remarks After Swearing in to Douglas County Council

Date:

“Firstly, I’d like to express my deep gratitude to God for enabling me to stand before you today. It’s truly an exceptional blessing to reflect on the extraordinary sequence of events that have occurred over the last eighteen months or so.

Just over a year ago, I was serving as an active-duty lieutenant in the Navy. Following that, I transitioned to the Naval Reserves. Now, I’m profoundly privileged to stand before you in the capacity of a District One County Commissioner.

I feel it’s imperative to pay homage to God for this amazing journey because, truly, it feels like a dream come true. It all started back in 2006 when I declared at Douglas County High School that I aspired to become the first Black president. I also expressed my desire to kickstart my political journey right here, in the town where I grew up.

At one point, I harbored ambitions of becoming the mayor, but God had different plans for me. I was bestowed the honor of this position, which is especially meaningful because District One encompasses the part of Douglasville that raised me and shaped me into the person I am today.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has been an integral part of my life journey. A special shoutout to Sheriff Ten Pounds for keeping us on the straight and narrow during my younger days running around the streets with Thomas and Anita. And of course, I cannot forget my parents who have always been my unwavering support system.

The phrase “It takes a village to raise a child” encapsulates my life perfectly. So many individuals in Douglasville have left a significant impact on my life. I sincerely thank each one of you for your contributions.

Finally, it’s an honor to be in a position to serve the town that has given me so much. I am a testament to this community’s strength, and I look forward to giving back. Thank you for entrusting me with this role. I am excited about the future, and I am dedicated to working hard for all of you.”
