Bring the Party to Your Porch

Date:

Let me share with you a unique and inspiring experience I had over the weekend at an event that unexpectedly embodied the ethos of libertarianism – the Virginia Highlands Porchfest.

Now, you may be wondering – Virginia Highlands? Isn’t that an enclave of ultra-progressives? Well, it may be, but hear me out. Despite the neighborhood’s political leanings, this community-wide celebration of music turned out to be a wonderful representation of a core libertarian principle at work – decentralization.

Every porch, every band, every crowd was distinct, offering a different flavor of music, engagement, and camaraderie. A vibrant hodgepodge, if you will, of people, sounds, and experiences. Each stop was an echo of free will, an individual’s choice of how they wanted their slice of the festival to be. Sound familiar?

However, I’ll be the first to confess that my mind was wandering a bit, not so much in the realm of music but in a world of possibilities. As I was enjoying this event, an idea struck me – what if we, as a party, hosted a porch at the next Porchfest? Imagine a liberty porch, complete with freedom-loving bands, libertarian literature, and our merchandise for curious passers-by. Now throw in a libertarian speaker or candidate into the crowd, and what have we got? A fabulous and immersive libertarian experience right on your front porch!

I was so engrossed in the thought that I completely missed the performance from Zyx, a heavy metal boyband fronted by one of our very own LPGa supporters!

So, here’s my call to action: do we have anyone in the area willing to offer their porch as a venue for Liberty Porch at any upcoming Porchfests? We’ll handle the organization and logistics – all we need is a space within the festival area.

And this isn’t restricted to just Virginia Highlands. We could also participate in the Oakhurst Porchfest in Decatur, the one near the motor speedway in Hampton, the Porchfest in historic Athens, or any other around the state.

So, fellow libertarians, let’s do a little homework. Look into these events, find out if they’re happening in your neighborhood, and get in touch with me. This is an opportunity to bring the spirit of libertarianism to our communities in a fun, engaging, and memorable way. If you’re interested in volunteering your porch, or just wish to explore the idea further, please reach out.
