Libertarian John Turpish Enters Race for Georgia’s HD 125

Date:

The Libertarian Party of Georgia has endorsed John Turpish for the upcoming special election in State House District 125. This decision, unanimously agreed upon by the voting members of the party’s executive committee, signifies strong and unified support within the party for Mr. Turpish’s candidacy.

John Turpish, a software engineer from Grovetown, is known for his dedication to libertarian values. His campaign, themed “Live your free life!”, emphasizes individual liberties, minimal government interference, and the promotion of economic growth and freedom. The Libertarian Party of Georgia’s endorsement positions Turpish as a notable contender against the traditional two-party candidates.

Gerred Bell, the Chair of the Libertarian Party of Georgia, expressed confidence in Turpish, saying, “We are honored to endorse Mr. Turpish for HD 125. His principles of liberty align perfectly with our party’s vision.”

The special election, to be held on February 13, 2024, was called following the resignation of former Representative Barry Fleming, a Republican from Harlem. Fleming’s departure came after his appointment as a judge in the Columbia Judicial Circuit by Governor Brian Kemp.

Turpish’s candidacy introduces a dynamic element to the race, offering voters an alternative to the long-standing two-party system. Addressing the need for change, Turpish stated, “It’s well past time for government to get out of the way and let people and communities solve their own problems.”

Competing for the seat alongside Turpish are CJ Pearson, Gary Richardson, and Jim Steed from the Republican Party, and Kay Turner from the Democratic Party.

The election process begins with early voting on January 22, with additional Saturday voting on January 27 and February 3. A runoff, if required, is slated for March 12.
